Chirstmas 2009 is in the books...

I was really looking forward to the holidays this year. Sure having another little one who is on a schedule always makes this a little more challenging but we just went with the flow and took in as much of the holiday festivities as we could. It is SO much fun to see the holidays through the eyes of a child once again. We tried very hard this year to emphasize "the joy of giving" to Jenna. She helped us shop for special things for the people we had to buy gifts for and it was fun to see how proud she was to watch them open what she had helped select. She is an EXCELLENT secret keeper as she did not spill one single secret to anyone! We spent time reading Christmas stories and she got to do lots of fun Christmas crafts with Grandma. I could listen to her sing Christmas carols all day long...maybe we'll have to turn them on from time to time so I don't have to wait a whole year to hear them!
I was so excited to visit Jenna's preschool class the last day before break. Of course during singing she did all the motions but didn't sing a word, then proceeded to belt them out the second we got in the car, stinker! We had a lot of fun making crafts and decorating cupcakes!
Dave and Jenna making some Christmas treats, I think plenty of kisses and M&M's were eaten in the process!

Since Jenna is not a napper I am always looking for fun activities to keep her busy in the afternoon while Garrett is sleeping. It turned out to be an "arts and crafts" Christmas for her and she loved it. We did make the mistake of not "pre-assembling" her art easel so she was a little confused at why she was just getting a big box but once it was put together she played all afternoon. Garrett received some "boy" toys. He already enjoys sitting on the floor watching Jenna play with them and I'm sure it won't be long before he's chasing her away! It was so sweet watching Jenna trying to teach Garrett to open his gifts, she's such a good big sis!
Garrett loved the wrapping paper!

The best part of the holidays was cherishing the time with family....
(Still need to get pics from my mom and sister so this is the best I have of "our" family picture at the moment).

Grandma & Grandpa Kapenga...
Grandma Overway with Allee, Jenna and Garrett...

By far the best gift I could have asked for this year...

In the end it was a very fun filled holiday season. Just like every other Christmas I wish my dad was here to celebrate with us and be there for his grandsons first Christmas. Having Garrett this year brought back so many memories of Jenna's first Christmas and how excited my dad was at our family party on Christmas Eve to give her the red wagon they bought her. It made me think of all the events and celebrations he has not been there for and I don't think any number of years will take away that feeling. I am so thankful that because of the very reason we celebrate the season, the birth of our Saviour, I can have faith and hope that he is enjoying the biggest celebration of all!
